Fund to End Gun Violence Endorses Salud Carbajal for Congress

Today, Senator Chris Murphy’s Fund to End Gun Violence announced their endorsement of Salud Carbajal, candidate for Congress in California’s 24th District.

First announced earlier this year, the Fund to End Gun Violence will direct grassroots support to House and Senate candidates who support commonsense measures to stop the epidemic of gun violence that kills thousands of Americans each year.

“We all remember a time not that long ago when Democrats avoided talking about guns – especially as candidates in competitive campaigns. But this year has marked a sea change in the fight to reduce gun violence. With ninety percent of voters behind us, Democrats are finally going on offense,” said Senator Chris Murphy. “I’m proud to support Salud Carbajal because he’s made ending gun violence a cornerstone of his campaign. By electing more people like Salud, Congress can finally listen to the will of the people, not the gun lobby.”

“I’m honored to have Senator Chris Murphy’s Fund to End Gun Violence endorse my campaign,” said Salud Carbajal. “In Congress, you can bet I will fight for substantive action to combat the gun violence epidemic in our country. Our own community was devastated by the impacts of gun violence just two years ago when six lives were unnecessarily taken on UC Santa Barbara’s campus.  I refuse to accept frequent mass shootings in our schools, malls and nightclubs as normal.”

Salud Carbajal supports universal background checks, requiring background checks on all gun sales, including those online or at gun shows. Background checks have proven to reduce the rate of gun trafficking, domestic violence and suicide.  As a veteran of the Marine Corps Reserves, he believes that assault weapons do not belong in our communities or on our streets.

In contrast, his opponent Justin Fareed has opposed commonsense gun safety efforts in Congress to keep guns out of the hands of suspected terrorists.
